POSITION OF ELEMENTS IN A PERIODIC TABLE

About 78% of elements are metals and are placed at the left side of the periodic table Non-metals are placed at the right side of the periodic table Elements which show some properties of metals and some properties of non-metals are called metalloids and are present on zig-zag border line which run diagonally across periodic table.

  • The elements are classified into 4 blocks s,p,d and f.
  • The elements present at extreme left side of the periodic table are called s block elements.
  • The elements present at extreme right side of the periodic table are called p block elements.
  • s and p block elements obey the periodicity completely and represent all the elements in the periodic table and are called representative elements.
  • The elements between s and p block elements represents Transition Elements and are called d block elements
  • The elements placed in separate panels at the bottom of the periodic table represents lanthanides and actinides and are called f block elements.
